It's that time of year again; not only are schools all heading back after a long summer break, but it's also National Coding Week! With this in mind, we thought it was about time you got to know Rainforest Coding author and co-developer, Simon Hosler.
Simon is a keen cyclist, and while we were all winding down for the summer holidays he was gearing up for his annual trek to the south of France.
Simon takes up the challenge every summer, using only pedal power and occasionally the odd bit of public transport (well, it is impossible to cycle the length of the English Channel!)
He spent a month completing his mammoth journey, overcoming all sorts of obstacles along the way, and by the end he says he’s fit and ready for the Tour de France, admitting: “It’s always much tougher at the start.”
He totalled a whopping 850 miles cycling, from start to finish! He enjoys the challenge and as with coding, he likes to problem-solve as he goes and feels a huge sense of achievement when it works out.
Simon even managed to pop in to see the TechEdology team, after which he braved the infamous Pewsey Hill (no mean feat!) and confirmed this was the biggest of all the hills he faced during his travels.
Simon and his trusty folding bike eventually got him to the south of France, although he encountered all sorts of weather and quality of roads and pathways.
He had a few cycling partners join him for different sections of the route, and racked up several trials and tribulations, including bike malfunctions, losing kit, and language challenges!
We look forward to hearing about Simon’s journeys next year.
